What You Need To Know

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program was created in the 1980s as a result of an increase in hunger in the American population. It has different names in different states and Kansas, the program goes by the Food Assistance and Nutrition Program. The program is considered to be one of the most active and helpful programs of the federal government accommodating families at times of economic downfall in the country. The Kansas Food Assistance and Nutrition Program do not discriminate based on gender, color, ethnicity, political affiliation, or religion.

Program Goals

The main purpose of the Kansas Food Assistance and Nutrition Program is to provide the underprivileged families who are living on a fixed budget with an opportunity to improve their food quality. It helps them add valuable nutrition in their food by purchasing food that is healthy and nutritious. This leads them to live a healthy and self- sustaining lifestyle subsequently increasing the quality of lifestyle of people in the country.

The Process

The eligible families of the Kansas Food Assistance and Nutrition Program are linked with government agencies, nutritionists, local community-based agencies as well as faith-based organizations in the state of Kansas. These organizations make sure the families are fully educated about the program so that they can approach the application in a well-informed manner. This leads the families to make better decisions and allow them to take full benefits from the country’s largest hunger preventive program. The beneficiaries are provided with an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card which they can use in the various food stores across Kansas which are also approved by the government.

  • Alcoholic beverages

  • Vitamins
  • Medicine
  • Food that you will consume in the store

Are You Eligible?

The applicant needs to meet the following requirements to be able to apply for the Kansas Food Assistance and Nutrition Program,

  • The candidate needs to be a permanent resident of the state of Kansas to be eligible for the program
  • The candidate must have a US citizenship or be a legal alien to receive the Food Stamp program’s benefits.
  • The candidate must have a Social Security Number (SSN)
  • The candidate must have a job (if the age lies between the age of 21-59 and doesn’t have kind of disability)
  • The total bank limit of the applicant should be under $$2,001 (  both saving and checking)
  • If the candidate is sharing a household with a person, is a senior citizen or disabled then the current bank account limit should be below $3,251 (both saving and checking)

The number of members in a household and total household income is also very important factors while considering a candidate for the Kansas Food Assistance and Nutrition Program. The amount of the maximum gross income level before taxes must equate.

In case, the household size is greater than 8 members an additional amount of $5746 is considered per member. The amount of annual income level might change from time to time. Other than that, there are certain documents than an applicant is required to have during the application process

  • Proof of utility bills
  • Bank statement of current months
  • Social Security Number of all members in the household
  • Medical expense receipts

  • Immigration status
