What You Need To Know

The HUSKY Healthcare program (CHIP) in the state of Connecticut is run by the Centres for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The program is enhancing the healthcare experience for the citizens of Connecticut who otherwise are underprivileged and are unable to afford any sort of private health coverage.

22% of Connecticut’s populations which add up to over 800,000 citizens are benefited by the Connecticut HUSKY Healthcare who otherwise cannot apply for the Medicaid program. The program provides healthcare packages to both individuals who are working as well as to working families. The CHIP is the result of an extension of the Medicaid program. The federal government makes the basic frameworks of the program however; each state has the option to add other benefits to it.

Types of HUSKY Members

The HUSKY members are divided into 4 types;

  • HUSKY A (mostly children and parents). Almost 60% of the enrollees are HUSKY A clients

  • HUSKY C includes older citizens and special need people
  • HUSKY D are adults with no dependent child

What are the requirements?

The eligible candidates for the Connecticut HUSKY Healthcare (SCHIP) are families with children up to 19 years of age who are exempted for Medicaid as a result of high household income.

It is required for the child to be a permanent and legal resident of the state of Connecticut in order to be eligible for the CT HUSKY Healthcare (SCHIP). Other than that, the annual household income of the family is also taken into consideration for the child to be deemed eligible for the program.
